“VICHE” IS A CONFEDERATION OF SOCIETIES OF UKRAINIANS LIVING IN LATVIA

THE CONFEDERATION WAS FOUNDED 02/10/2022

CURRENTLY THE CONFEDERATION INCLUDES FOUR UKRAINIAN SOCIETIES IN LATVIA:

Biedrība “SICH” – Public Organization “SICH”

“Ukraiņu Kulturas Centrs “Džerelo”, biedrība – Society “Ukrainian Cultural Center “Dzherelo”” (“Source”)

“Latvijas Ukraiņu Jaunatnes Biedrība “Vektors Eiropā” – “Society of Latvian Ukrainian Youth “Vector to Europe””

“Ukraiņu Studiju Centrs”, biedrība – Society “Ukrainian Studies Center”

The Confederation is headed by the Chairman of the Board, who is elected by the representatives of the societies once a year or at another time, if circumstances so require. Bogdan Timkiv is currently the Chairman of the Board of the Confederation “VICHE”.

The Confederation “VICHE” cooperates on a permanent basis with the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia in holding actions and events of public importance.

OUR GOALS

The purpose of the confederation is to unite Ukrainian public organizations of the Republic of Latvia to promote the interests of Ukraine and Ukrainians in all areas, coordinate the activities of public organizations in Latvia and cooperate with domestic and foreign state, business and public structures, promote Ukrainian national identity. Formation and development of the foundations of Ukrainian civil society in Latvia.

OUR TASKS

The main tasks of the confederation are:

  • Uniting of Latvian-Ukrainian organizations;
  • Contributing to the process of integration of Ukrainian communities into the Latvian society;
  • Expanding and strengthening the ties of Ukrainian communities in Latvia, as well as promoting their integration into international structures;
  • Representation and protection of their legitimate interests and interests of participants in governmental authorities;
  • Contributing to the revival and development of Ukrainian ethnic traditions;
  • Promoting the study of Ukrainian history, language, culture and traditions;
  • Promoting the creation of appropriate conditions to ensure the education of young people in Ukrainian traditions within the framework of Sunday and mass school events;
  • Representing the interests of the Confederation in state and other structures;
  • Supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine;
  • Promoting the expansion and development of cooperation between the Republic of Latvia and Ukraine and other countries in the fields of culture, education, science, economics and other fields;
  • Organizing humanitarian aid and collecting donations for the Ukrainian community if necessary;

To implement these goals and tasks which are set out in the charter of the Confederation “VICHE”, and in accordance with the procedure established by law, members of the society must carry out the following actions:

  • conceptually, organizationally and financially support Ukrainian organizations and associations, whose activities correspond to the goals and objectives of the Confederation, assisting in their creation and activities;
  • cooperate with Latvian and Ukrainian state institutions, local governments and institutions of the European Union, as well as the embassies of Latvia and Ukraine to achieve the objectives and accomplish the tasks;
  • participate in the discussion of draft laws and other state acts affecting the national life of the representatives of the Latvian minority;
  • disseminate objective information about Ukraine in Latvia and about Latvia in Ukraine and popularize its ideas and goals;
  • organize congresses, conferences, seminars, etc. with the participation of domestic and foreign experts;
  • organize congresses, conferences, seminars, etc. with participation of domestic and foreign specialists;
  • organize competitions, fairs, exhibitions, etc.;
  • may create or join international public (non-governmental) organizations, form international unions of citizens’ associations, maintain direct international contacts and communications, conclude relevant agreements, and also participate in the implementation of activities that do not contradict the international obligations of Latvia and Ukraine.
